The Twenty-Sixth Conference on Artificial Intelligence (AAAI-12) was held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, from July 22 – 26, 2012. The proceedings volumes were published by AAAI Press.

The AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence — AAAI's summer conference — has promoted theoretical and applied AI research as well as intellectual interchange among researchers and practitioners. The technical papers presented at the twenty-sixth meeting of this conference feature substantial, original research and practices, with special emphasis on artificial intelligence and the web; cognitive systems; computational sustainability and artificial intelligence; constraints, satisfiability, and search; knowledge-based information systems; knowledge representation and reasoning; machine learning; multiagent systems; natural-language processing; reasoning about plans, processes, and actions; reasoning under uncertainty; and robotics; as well as multidisciplinary topics. The AAAI-12 program cochairs were Jörg Hoffmann (Saarland University, Germany) and Bart Selman (Cornell University, USA). The conference also includes subarea spotlight papers, the Seventeenth AAAI / SIGART doctoral consortium abstracts, and student abstracts.The AAAI Conference Committee Chair was Dieter Fox (University of Washington, USA). 

This proceedings also includes the papers presented at the Twenty-Fourth Innovative Applications of Artificial Intelligence Conference. Markus Fromherz (ACS, a Xerox Company, USA) served as IAAI-12 conference chair. Hector Munoz-Avila (Lehigh University, USA) served as IAAI-12 conference cochair. The IAAI conference consisted of case studies of deployed applications with measurable benefits whose value depends on the use of AI technology, as well as emerging applications, which discuss efforts to apply AI tools, techniques, or methods to real world problems. Through the IAAI papers in this proceedings, AI researchers can learn about challenges of real-world domains, the utility of particular AI techniques for specific applications, and the difficulties, successes, and lessons learned in deploying AI applications.

For the third year in a row, the Symposium on Educational Advances in Artificial Intelligence was in conjunction with AAAI-12 and included in these proceedings. The symposium was chaired by David Kauchak (Middlebury College, USA). EAAI-12 provides a venue for researchers and educators to discuss pedagogical issues and share resources related to teaching AI and using AI in education.
