The Twenty-Third Innovative Applications of Artificial Intelligence Conference was held as an integral part of the Twenty-Fifth AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence, held in San Francisco, California at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco, from August 7–11, 2011, USA. The IAAI proceedings were published in volume 2 of the 2-volume set of AAAI proceedings published by AAAI Press.

The IAAI-11 conference chair was Daniel Shapiro (Institute for the Study of Learning and Expertise, USA). The IAAI-11 conference cochair was Markus Fromherz (ACS, a Xerox Company, USA).

The IAAI conference traditionally consists of case studies of deployed applications with measurable benefits whose value depends on the use of AI technology, as well as emerging applications, which discuss efforts to apply AI tools, techniques, or methods to real world problems. Through the IAAI papers in this proceedings, AI researchers can learn about challenges of real-world domains, the utility of particular AI techniques for specific applications, and the difficulties, successes, and lessons learned in deploying AI applications.
