The Fifth International AAAI Conference on Weblogs and Social Media (ICWSM-11) was held July 17–21, 2011 in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. The conference general cochairs were Nicolas Nicolov and James G. Shanahan. The conference program cochairs were Lada Adamic, Ricardo Baeza-Yates, and Scott Counts. The conference was sponsored by the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence.
The social and community driven aspects of our digital lives continue to rapidly increase, resulting in transformative behaviors and, significantly, publishing and distributing huge amounts of fascinating data. The International AAAI Conference on Weblogs and Social Media met in Barcelona, Spain to discuss the latest research analyzing and leveraging this resource. The 2011 papers covered both old and new ground, from the advancement of techniques to extract, summarize, and detect information from social streams, to understanding phenomena in society by how they are reflected in and shaped by social media.
