The 2020 ICAPS conference was originally scheduled for June 14-19, 2020 in Nancy, France. The conference was rescheduled to October 26-20, 2020 at the same location. The physical conference was then cancelled, and the conference became a completely virtual even, held during the same dates.

Th 69 papers included in this issue are those selected for presentation at ICAPS 2020 and represent the latest advances in the field of automated planning and scheduling. They have been organized into four tracks — a main conference track and four special tracks, consisting of novel applications; humans and robotics; knowledge engineering, integrated execution, and system architectures; planning and learning.

The International Conference on Automated Planning and Scheduling came about from the merging of the International AI Planning and Scheduling Conference (AIPS) and the European Conference on Planning (ECP). Although the first conference under the new name was held in 2003, the organizers have honored the numbering of the two previous conferences. AAAI Press has published all of the previous ICAPS proceedings, and most of the prior AIPS proceedings, but none of the ECP proceedings.
